Some ground rules.

These are set and enforced by the turtleisland.social moderators.

1. Read the entire 'About' page
   It is CRITICAL for new accounts to read the entire 'About' page (https://turtleisland.social/about) including the Rules sub-section there BEFORE applying for an account at TurtleIsland.social.
2. Absolutely no anti-indigeneity, racism or bigotry
   We can not stress this enough - Absolutely no anti-indigeneity, racism, bigotry, anti-semitism, islamophobia, pro-genocide, pro-ethnic cleansing, pro-terrorism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. 95%+ of our issues fall in this category; we take this seriously.
3. Promoting Indigenous art/products/businesses
   Promoting authentic Indigenous art, products and businesses is allowed and encouraged. Promoting fake, inspired, or appropriated products is not allowed. Non-Indigenous businesses masquerading as Indigenous owned are not allowed.
4. We strongly support and encourage Mutual Aid
   Must use #IndigenousMutualAid, #SettlerSaturday or #MutualAid hashtags as appropriate. Requests for mutual aid must be on your original post. Requests cannot be made in unsolicited comments or private messages to other users. Posts cannot tag other users, especially bulk user lists. Inappropriate hashtag bombing is not allowed.
5. False cultural identities
   If you have an issue with the Indigeneity or cultural identity of an account, file a report and forward it to that instance/server. Don't hold your breath for external server sympathies though. The Pretendian subject is not forbidden, but keep it mature please.
6. Disallowed account types
   Personal parody, sock puppet, false celebrity, false identity, or any account made to expressly abuse, bully, dox or intimidate others are not allowed.
7. Disallowed account behaviors
   Immature and abusive posts, organized dogpiling, and anything determined by admins/moderators to be disruptive are not allowed. Ultimately as a private instance admins/moderators can overrule anything. That said, micromanagement is not our goal, so just be chill.
8. Promotion of Right-wing views is not allowed
   Promotion of Right-wing, Conservative, Republican, Fascist, Nazi or other equally horrible political views is not allowed.
9. NSFW content requires Content Warnings/Labels
   Per community standards, NSFW content requires Content Warnings (CWs) or labeling. Nudity, porn or gratuitous violence requires CWs/labels. Turtle Island does not require CWs/labels for other types of content. If you are in doubt, please ask.
10. If you are easily offended
    Generally speaking, if you are easily offended, Turtle Island may not be the place for you.
11. Private messaging
    Private messaging 'Hello how are you?' or similar with no real question or content after a followback or otherwise, like only a scammer would do, will result in an immediate report to originating instance and a TurtleIsland.social suspension.
12. Other issues
    Any other issues not covered by these rules will be settled by the sole determination of the administrators or moderators.
13. List your Native/Indigenous Nation/Tribe
    If you are Native/Indigenous, when the 'Create Account' screen asks 'Why do you want to join?' please list your Native/Indigenous Nation/Tribe. That is all we need. Anything else or less specific may not get approved.
14. OR - list why you want to join
    If you are non-Native/Indigenous, when the 'Create Account' screen asks 'Why do you want to join?', yes it's awkward but please list reasons or other Fediverse account(s) to help the moderators approve your account. That is all we need. Anything else or less specific may not get approved.
